Pupil leadership

Westwood with Iford currently has two pupil councils: the School Council and the Eco Council, whose members are elected by the other children in their class to put forward the pupil voice in our school.

The good thing about being on the School Council is that we can make changes and we are in charge of running our own events.

We use Smart School Councils website software to set up our questions and then deliver the assemblies in class. This means that every child has a vote in the decisions. We also record any comments from the assemblies and decide if we can make them into an action.

We usually meet weekly and have a working lunch to decide what the next class assembly should be.

At the beginning of the year, the children in school voted on a charity that they would like to support. We have previously fund-raised and gave donations of bedding and blankets to Bath Cats and Dogs Home in Bath and last year we supported Dorothy House Hospice.

This year, the children voted to support Keyford Hedgehog Rescue based in Frome, after a struggling hedgehog was rescued in our school grounds earlier in September..

Please help us to collect donations for the rescue. Any donations can be put into the box outside Chestnut's classroom.

Thank you.

Eco Council

Our Eco Council members meet during working lunches and put forward their ideas on how to make sustainable and eco-friendly changes within our school.

Among other projects, we are continuing to help the school to work towards our Platinum Green Tree Award.
